Vocabulary

Code: A set of instructions for a computer.

Sequence: An ordered set of steps; computers need instructions with the correct sequence to perform a task.

Sequential Events: Actions that happen one at a time. The actions happen in order, one after another.

Outcome: The result of a code. For example, the outcome is the movement of KINI.

The Challenge

Using two objects that you have in your house, set up a soccer net for KINI. With your parent’s permission, use tape, cups, chairs, recycled materials (like cans or boxes), or any two objects to create the posts of the net.

Once you have set up your net, put KINI down in front of the net. Then put the ball down in front of KINI. Using the joystick in the KINI App, try getting KINI to push the ball around the room. You can even make KINI score a goal by using the joystick.

Once you have mastered using the joystick to make KINI score a goal, go to the Blockly tab in the KINI App. Using blocks in Blockly, make a sequence that gets KINI to move forward and push the ball. Then, try making a code that makes KINI push the ball and score a goal. If you have multiple KINIs, you can even make a code to get them to pass the ball. You may need some help from friends, classmates or parents to get the code right!

Hopefully, the outcome of your code will be that KINI scores a goal!

Review

  1. What worked well and what didn’t? Were there any challenges?

  2. Which method was easiest? Using the joystick? Or using Blockly?

  3. Did you get KINI to score a goal? If you did, how?

  4. What would you change next time?
